As
in the Profile SW 908 subwoofer, the Electra
SW 1000 Be integrates a new generation of
electronics with a high current BASH®
(Bridge Amplifier Switch Hybrid) type amplifier
and a 24 bit, digital signal processor (DSP).
The power output climbs to 600 Watts rms (750W
peaks) and the processor gets additional resources
for its improved functionality. The combination
of a high efficiency (90.5dB/W/m), 33cm woofer
(13’’) and a very powerful woofer
allows a considerable sound pressure level
in the order of 120dB when freestanding, and
almost 130dB when the cabinet is placed in
a room corner.
This considerable sound pressure led us to
use a rectangular port and a progressive decompression.
The absence of airflow noise, responsible
for distortion and dynamic compression in
very deep bass, is one of the remarkable traits
of this subwoofer, even at very high levels.
The
DSP processor manages all functions in the
digital domain for the subwoofer’s settings.
In addition to the remarkable flexibility
and the considerable resources that such a
processor offers in comparison with an analog
one, the precision of the fine tuning has
no equivalent. Also, the LCD display constitutes
an excellent interface for menu navigation.
The latter is quite easy to understand thanks
to management from an intuitive wireless remote,
despite the considerable number of available
functions:

Adjustable, active crossover from 50 to 150Hz
by 5Hz steps.
• Parametric Boost Mode: adjustable
from 30 to 50Hz (5Hz steps) from 0 to +6dB
for linear
or dynamic listening.
• Night Mode: dynamic compression, ideal
for keeping discernable bass content at even
low levels.
• Variable phase from 0° to 180°
by 10° steps for a very precise relationship
between subwoofer and loudspeakers.
• Variable gain from –6 to +6dB
to adapt the sensitivity of the sub in stereo
or home theatre mode.
• Menu selection of the 3 inputs LFe
(mono)Stereo/Digital
• Adjustable subsonic fi lter from 0
to 45Hz (5Hz steps) with a 48dB/octave slope.
Certain functions offer hidden possibilities
that will prove extremely useful in daily
or more specific applications.
• The digital connections (SPDIF format)
permit to easily connect several SW 1000 Be
in the digital domain, without having to calibrate
each subwoofer thanks to an integrated masterslave
confi guration. All functions are calibrated
on the first subwoofer in the digital chain
(master) and these settings are immediately
fed to all the others (slaves), even including
volume. Logically, each slave keeps phase
and gain control.
• All parameters (active crossover,
boost, phase, subsonic fi lter, gain) are
kept in 3 user settings, including the inputs.
Therefore, it is possible to assign the LFe
input to the Cinema setting, and the stereo
input to the Hi-fi setting for an entirely
different use of the sub according to the
type of listening.
